OlgaPushkareva

I graduated from the Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) with a BS in Mathematics and MS in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, specializing in Data Analysis in Biology and Medicine. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland) in the Computational and Quantitative Biology Doctoral School. Under the supervision of Professor Bart Deplancke, I am studying the impact of gene regulatory variation on disease using the concept of Variable Chromatin Modules. My research interests focus on statistical methods for omics data analysis and algorithm development in the field of genomics.

In my free time, I love reading, drawing, and enjoying the beauties of different countries. It is exciting to become a member of ENHPATHY! The consortium provides a unique opportunity to meet young researchers all over Europe, to expand and share knowledge in both academic and non-academic fields. All of this is crucial not only for a better understanding of existing research questions but also for strengthening the bond between scientific and real-world problems. I am looking forward to upcoming social events, summer schools — regardless of the offline or online format!

My research project

Understanding the impact of gene regulatory variation on disease using variable chromatin modules (VCMs) (WP2)

In this project, we will leverage the transformative power of VCMs to unravel how genetic and regulatory variation guides phenotypic diversity. We predict that the most likely causal variants are those that associate with VCM activity, gene expression, and organismal phenotypes (here, extent of differentiation). We will map VCMs both at the single cell and bulk level and exploit their coordinated molecular nature to uncover the flow of regulatory information, from causal nucleotides over gene(s) to phenotype. As such, we aim to provide unprecedented insights into the molecular mechanisms driving phenotypic variation.
